Kaira Claire Dalida: Working on Her Dreams to Become a Reality
Monday, May 29, 2017

Kaira Claire Dalida is a 14-year-old 8th grader at Pres. Corazon C. Aquino High School. She is able to study now despite financial difficulties because of her scholarship from Couples For Christ ANswering the Cry Of The Poor (CFC ANCOP).

Kaira is the eldest among four children. Her mother has been the sole breadwinner in their family after her father died when she was four years old. Since then, they lived with their grandparents to save on housing costs and at the same time, her grandparents helped by looking after her and her siblings while Kaira’s mother, Flordeliza, did everything she could to provide for their family.

Flordeliza even tried her luck abroad as an overseas Filipino worker but came back not so long after. They’ve been through trial after trial, even then, her mother still worked as hard as she could to provide for them.

Kaira narrates on how it was prior to her ANCOP scholarship: “Simula nang mamatay ang aking ama, nagpasyang mangibang bansa ang aking ina upang matustusan ang aming pangangailangan at tinulungan din kami ng aming mga tiyahin.” (After my father died, my mother decided to work abroad to support our financial needs. My aunts helped us as well.)

Her father’s death has made them closer as a family. They learned to work together as a team to overcome any obstacle they encounter.

(If there is a problem worse than my father’s death that life brings us, our family talks about how we can solve it and work together to do so.)

Kaira also helps her mother in whatever way she can.

(Every weekend, I go to my aunt and help her with the laundry. Her kids give me money which I use to buy materials for school projects.)

Kaira is studying very hard and hopes to finish college with the help of the good donors of ANCOP. She already has three college courses in mind – Tourism, Education, and Culinary Arts.

(I want three courses in college --- Tourism, Education and Culinary Arts. I want a high paying job because I wanna help my mother in my siblings’ schooling.)

(The job I want is a flight attendant but if I can’t, then I’d want to be a teacher so I can teach. I also want a restaurant business because I love to cook.)

Kaira is grateful for all her mother’s hard work.

(My mother is my idol because she is doing everything to make sure that we have a proper life.)

She also wishes to thank her sponsor: “Kung may magic cellphone at makakausap ko ang aking sponsor, kakamustahin ko siya at magpapasalamat para sa lahat ng naitulong niya para mapaganda ang aking buhay.” (If there is a magic cellphone and I am able to talk to my sponsor, I will ask how he/she is and will thank him/her for all the help to ensure I will have a better life.
