Tuesday, February 13, 2018
The Romblon Diocesan Social Action Center (RDSAC) and CFC ANCOP-USA partnered in building homes for the people in Sitio Banturan, Barangay Cabolutan, San Agustin Romblon.
The turn-over ceremony and blessing of houses in the new RDSAC CFC ANCOP-USA Community were conducted last November 13, 2017. The program started at two in the afternoon and was participated by the Local Government Unit of San Agustin and Clergy of the Diocese of Romblon.
Houses were blessed by the Most Rev. Narciso Abellana, Bishop of Romblon. It is followed with the program proper where the bishop shared that the event is not just about the balloons and colorful houses, but it is about the things being concrete. The bishop also inspired the home partners through his challenge to show love among others. He said “Ipakita natin na hindi lang tayo Kristyano, kundi Katoliko. Ipakita natin na tayo ay hindi lang kinasal, tayo ay nagmamahal; sa ating pamilya, sa ating kapitbahay at sa ating sarili”. (Let us show them that we are not just Christians, but Catholics. Let us show that we did not just get married, but we love; we love our family, our neighbor and ourselves)
The signing of Moa also took place on the same day. It is participated by the RDSAC Director, CFC Romblon, LGU and the president of the home partners association.
The donor of the land, Engr. Gil Madrilejos also attended the event. He told the community members that God is the great provider so they must always thank Him. He also encouraged them to give importance to their community and to always treasure it. His message was followed by the distribution of the certificates of occupancy to the homeowners.
The Vice Mayor of the area, Mr. Zaldy Marin and the former Mayor Lourdes Madrona imparted their message to the people who took the initiative to build the community for the families of San Agustin who doesn’t have their own shelter. Mrs. Madrona told the beneficiaries, “This is not just (about) the physical structure, the message of this project is love”.
The former settlers in the resettlement area of Romblon State University were then awarded with keys to their own houses. Bro. Don Rebueno, Provincial Coordinator of Romblon gave his words of hope; he said “Ang project na ito ay pinagpala para sa inyo. Sana balang araw makatulong din kayo sa iba” (This project is blessed for you. I hope someday you will be able to help others too)
Bro. Nathan Gomez, CFC ANCOP-USA coordinator also shared his message on behalf of the donors from CFC ANCOP-USA. He told them that CFC ANCOP-USA is very happy to see the work of God in the area.
Bro. Serafin Espineda Jr., president of the homeowners association, represented the home partners in accepting the community with his message of acceptance. Bro. Serafin partakes that he cannot imagine that a blessing of a shelter will be endowed to them. He added that their only promise is to take care of this blessing to them.
The day ended with the presentation of the other programs of RDSAC and the words of gratitude from its director, Rev. Fr. Ricardo Magro III. Next to look ahead is the multipurpose hall of the area in partnership with the government of San Agustin.
Tala Leprosarium in Caloocan City is one of the eight in the country which serves as a sanitarium and hospital for patients with leprosy. Leprosy or Hansen's disease (HD) is curable and declared eliminated as a public health concern. However, patients and even those who have long recovered continue to be regarded as “unclean” and faced discrimination by the society and even by their own families.
