ATENEO DE MANILA STUDENTS COINCIDES WITH FAMILIES IN OLB COMMUNITY
Thursday, July 12, 2018
Learning can also be found outside the four corners of the room. It is where people find experiences that mold them to be the person they opt to be in the future. Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) who embraces these ideals, conducts programs for the students to get involved in different communities.
For this semester, ADMU has once again partnered with CFC ANCOP to explore the rural communities through an immersion in different ANCOP sites. ANCOP welcomed them and shared the opportunity to see and integrate with the organization's work with the poor
In September 2017, ADMU has also partnered with ANCOP for the student's immersion in Paniqui, Tarlac, where they were given the chance to see the everyday lives of the homepartners and spend days with them. The university returned with a new set of students in Paniqui, Tarlac last February 23-25. 2018.
The following week, 16 ADMU students under the supervision of Ms. Jeans Claveria, Praxis Formator, visited the Our Lady of Banneux (OLB) Community, an ANCOP site located in San Mateo, Rizal.
They arrived in the site in the morning of March 2, 2018, and was first oriented by Bro. Romeo Medina, ANCOP Communications and Events head, about CFC ANCOP and its programs. The students also heard the brief history of the community and how things work for the families living in the area.
The morning was also used to let the students meet the families they will be spending their time with throughout the immersion. After lunch, they had conversed with their "foster" parents and was able to exchange stories with them.
The second day of the immersion, March 3, is spent learning about the community's livelihood program. After they were taught of how the products were made, the students happily joined creating recycled wallets with the women in the community. They also spent the weekend playing with the kids and enjoying the solidarity night that they have prepared for the community.
During the solidarity night, the students thanked and honored the community members for welcoming them and treating them as part of their own families. Both parties joyfully shared a dinner, played games and showcased presentations as part of the entertainment for the night.
On the last day of the formation program, the students had their processing session with Ms. Jeans Claveria. They have laid and communicated the realizations they had during the program and how it became an impact to their lives. Their experience became an eye opener for them and they had a chance to firsthand witness the social situations and issues an area is experiencing. After the session, they went back to their assigned families to give their words and token of thanksgiving and appreciation.
With this immersion, Ms. Jeans imparted how OLB has been warm to them. She said, "The OLB Community has accommodated us well, opened their hearts and their homes; despite difficult struggles at hand. We are thankful witnessing the strengths, courage, and love of these families when they treated us as part of their own."
With God's continued blessings to CFC ANCOP, Empire East Land Holdings Inc. chose us as their partner in building a community of 40 houses in Maribojoc, Bohol for the rehabilitation of the victims of Typhoon Yolanda and the 2013 Bohol earthquake. Their representative, Atty. Sen Sioson, set up a meeting with CFC ANCOP Global Foundation, Inc. President Rudy Gaspillo just this July 10, 2018 to seal the partnership and agreed upon the MOA signing happening in a month.
AS PART of its 37th anniversary celebration, CFC organized an ANCOP Congress, held on June 22, during which CFC ANCOP Global Foundation Inc. (CAGFI), and the Social Development Programs of CFC presented a comprehensive report on the overall accomplishments and updates on the community’s mission with the poor.
