SHS STUDENTS STEERED A PROJECT FOR A CAUSE

Tuesday, December 12, 2017

“Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.”

Timothy 4:12

A project for a subject in school became a gateway to help others for the students of the School of the Holy Spirit of Quezon City.

These five grade 12 students under the strand Humanities and Social Sciences or HUMSS was tasked for a project in their Christian Living subject. The project aims to create a project plan extending generosity through different organizations. They thought of implying the plan to an organization upholding education programs on it.

How did they end up choosing ANCOP?

From their group is Jana Alameda, a Youth For Christ member, who initiated having CFC ANCOP as the beneficiary of their project.

Jana narrated that upon searching for an organization, she asked their former sector head for a suggestion of which organization would be fitted for their objectives and she was advised to look for ANCOP.

Jana emailed ANCOP and coordinated with Sir Efren Tompong of the Child Sponsorship Program. She was then informed that the foundation is open for all who wishes to extend their hands to the needy.

When asked what encourage them to finalize ANCOP as the beneficiary of their cause, Trisha Dela Cuadra, the Team Leader answered: “Importante kasi ang education yung values na-lelearn mo along the way. Kaya I think it is worthy na mapili yung ANCOP because they also have this formation”. (Education is important because you can learn values along the way. That is why I think ANCOP is a worthy choice because they also have this formation).

Their project for a cause at school

The group decided to let their creativity be applied to their project. They designed and produced postcards, stickers, and photos and sell it to their classmates, who also are fond of those materials. They even go around other classrooms to raise funds with their products.

As a student, they find it challenging yet they see themselves having the capability to help through the ways they have.  Through the project they saw the results of being rooted with social sciences and being introduced to issues were awareness should be raised.

Thoughts about ANCOP

After having an orientation about the organization and its program, they were asked about their thoughts of ANCOP and the students gave the following answers:

“Nakita ko nga na ang daming works, sabi ko grabe ang galing… Kasi kahit yung organization nagstart pa lang marami ng programs. Sana dumami pa yung (works) sa future” (I was amazed when I saw that there are lot of work… There are lot of programs even when the organization is starting. I hope there would be more (works) in the future)    - Jana Alameda

“Thankful na nagkaroon kami ng opportunity na tumulong kahit konti.” (We are thankful to have the opportunity to help even a little

- Eazel Herrera

“I’m very thankful na nahanap namin ang ANCOP… Mas nalaman naming na kaya pala namin gawin ito” (I’m very thankful that we found ANCOP… We realized that we have the capability to do this)  - Trisha Dela Cuadra

“Malaking opportunity po ang ANCOP for me na tumulong.” (ANCOP is a big opportunity for me to help) - Iana Ramirez

“I’m both happy and hopeful. Happy kasi may mga organization na tumutulong sa mga bata… Hopeful po kasi, alam naman po natin na maraming nagngailangan ng tulong na bata, at andyan ang ANCOP para tumulong” (I’m both happy and hopeful. Happy that there are organizations that help the children… Hopeful because we know that there are children who need help, and ANCOP is there to help) - Maui Rongavilla

Upshot of their ANCOP experience

The students shared their cogitation after their ANCOP Experience. They share the same boat of inspiration to continuously help the poor as they grow and be the man of their chosen professions someday.

Trisha added “Nainspire din ako dun sa mga laude na graduate… Maiisip mo na kung sila nakaya nila, kaya ko rin ‘to kahit na noon marami akong doubts sa sarili ko…” (I am also inspired with the laude graduates… You will realize that if they can do it, you can also do it despite of my doubts before)

They also conveyed their apprehension that being a young student wouldn’t be a hindrance in aspiring to be instruments of service, may it be through building an organization to help too or live a life of sharing with others through the path they will take.
