AGW 2018: ONE NATION WALKS FOR EDUCATION
Thursday, April 26, 2018
For seven years, hope and interdependence have shined as the annual ANCOP Global Walk (AGW) took place. Every step shed in the said event is a light for the future of the students who struggle to go to school and enjoying proper education.
As ANCOP expands the scale in the Education Program, opening the avenue for parents to be taught with the different courses offered in Technical and Vocational Education Training, this year’s AGW also heightened its strategies in order to send more children to school.
These strategies were discussed as AGW 2018 was launched during the Mission Core Group Gathering last April 1, 2018, at the Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig City. Its event head, Bro. Robert Labayen spearheaded the said launching. He first introduced an ANCOP Alumni to the crowd, Ms. Kathleen Peña, who recently passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers. He shared how Peña, through the aid of ANCOP’s Educational Sponsorship Program, reached her dream to be a teacher and help young minds in their journey to education. Peña also entertained the crowd with a song entitled “How Far I’ll Go”.
In the launch, Labayen discussed how AGW will spread throughout the country this year. He highlighted that AGW will be communicated in every place and every sector of the society, making it uphold its theme: One Nation Walks for Education.
Labayen also addressed that communicating about the Technical and Vocational Education and Training for Parents (TVETP) and highlighting how it will create a difference in answering the cry of poor families are also part of the strategy for this year’s AGW. He also added that there will be an addition of fund generating methods and that an aggressive participation of the CFC Community is needed for this advocacy. With this, he also connected to CFC’s Family Ministries and Provincial CFCs for the support to create a bigger impact and to have a wider range of invites and participation in the event. He also encouraged everyone to be proactive in spreading the information through different social media platforms.
Lastly, Labayen communicated how AGW will be big this year, with the hope of consistently carrying the achievements of the past years’ AGW. He conveyed that to make it happen, he needs the support from everyone in order to help more youth in the country. “Aaminin ko po sa inyo, bilang event head this year, ninenerbyos po ako, kaya wag niyo po akong papabayaan. Inaasahan ko po ang tulong niyong lahat. Mabuhay po ang AGW 2018! Thank you!” (As this year’s event head, I admit, I am nervous, so don’t desolate me. I am hoping for your help…)
A HUNDRED individuals taking temporary refuge at the Ibaan, Batangas Evacuation Center, after being displaced by the Taal Volcano eruption, signed up for the TVET Training to Employment program, a venture sponsored by CFC ANCOP in partnership with DMCI, the Archdiocese of Lipa and Couples for Christ.
On January 12, just as everyone was still on the height of celebrating the start of a new decade, 2020 brought us one of its surprises no one expected—the Taal Volcano eruption. On its first day of volcanic activity, it spewed tons of ashes that greatly affected Batangas, and has reached nearby provinces and even parts of Metro Manila. This caused a lot of damage to the homes and livelihood of the residents, displacing thousands of them to different evacuation centers all over Batangas province.
