ON THE RISE: GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY HELD FOR ANCOP-SMDC SALCEDOVILLE
Friday, April 12, 2019
SALCEDO, Easter Samar—Another milestone has transpired this March 21, 2019, as the much-awaited groundbreaking ceremony for ANCOP-SMDC Salcedoville community has finally commenced. This is a major housing project by SM Development Corporation (SMDC) and CFC ANCOP Global Foundation together with the Municipality of Salcedo, Eastern Samar, SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI), Board of Investments (BOI), Don Bosco ONE TVET Philippines, and Couples for Christ Eastern Samar.
The socialized housing project site is a two-hectare land situated at Brgy. Tagbacan for 300 families; all victims of super typhoon Yolanda in 2013.
The event started with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a Holy Mass presided by Msgr. Alfredo Amistoso from the Diocese of Borongan. He affirmed that day’s Gospel about Lazarus and the Rich Man. He said, “This is just one of the instruments of the church, this pabahay to bring people closer to God.” He also commends CFC ANCOP’s noteworthy intervention on the transformation of the home partners’ lives with their Christian Life Program.
Mayor Melchor Mergal expressed that he has been praying that he would be able to build and restore the broken hopes and dignity of the people in his municipality as his own family had survived a typhoon in his younger days.
For him, Salcedoville is a dream come true not just for the beneficiaries, but also for the entire Municipality of Salcedo. He is truly grateful to everyone for their unwavering support and total dedication even in the midst of challenges they encountered before the groundbreaking activity.
Looking at the happy faces of all present in the momentous event, Gov. Samaniego affirmed BOI’s objective to include mass housing in their investment priority plan.
Atty. Portoza likewise expressed her hope to be able to instill discipline to beneficiaries, making them responsible and productive citizens of the community thereby eradicating an attitude of dependency.
Fr. Dindo Vitug, Executive Director of Don Bosco ONE TVET Philippines also expressed his gratefulness in being able to partner with the community by providing Technical and Vocational Education Training to the home partners. “Alam naming in TVET, this is where we can really help the poor and the marginalized,” (We know that in TVET, this is where we can really help the poor and the marginalized).
However, he also believes that there are still more poor people out there who cannot afford to go to their wide network of centers across the country; thus giving birth to the Mobile Training Center (MTC) that works hand-in-hand with CFC ANCOP. This was piloted last September in Salcedo, Eastern Samar.
Furthermore, the Executive Director has expressed high hopes that MTC would continue to expand and help more poor people in the peripheries.
Bro. Rudy Gaspillo, the CFC ANCOP President, thanked everyone for moving out of their comfort zones and extending their reach to the peripheries, as what Pope Francis extols. Noteworthy were the partner donors and CFC Eastern Samar for their wholehearted support and cooperation in making this pilot project possible. He also addressed the home partners to always have faith and hope in the Lord, as they are dearly loved by Him. He announced that the construction of the houses and sponsorship for 40 scholars under ANCOP Educational Sponsorship Program will start immediately. He concluded by reminding the home partners to always pray and be hopeful and God will answer their prayers.
Moreover, Cong. Evardone requested the home partners to take care of the community as an act of their gratitude to God and to their donors. He assured them that the government would provide them access to electricity and water. He emphasized that “kailangan mag-tulong tulong, dahil eventually nasa inyong (beneficiaries’) mga kamay ang success nito. Kaya kailangang mahalin natin ang project na ito.” (We need to help one another because eventually, the success of this project lies in your (beneficiaries’) hands. That’s why we need to love this project.)
Lastly, the beneficiaries also expressed their gratitude, especially to God and to all the partner donors. Sis. Precilla Padrilan, one of the home partners and a member of CFC Eastern Samar, said, “masayang-masaya ako kasi magkakaroon na kami ng sarili naming bahay at lupa. Para po sa lahat ng tumulong, sa Salcedo LGU, sa SMDC, sa ANCOP, sa lahat ng bumubuo na tumutulong sa 'min, maraming salamat po! Kami po ay magkakaroon ng magandang bahay at magandang buhay." (I am truly joyful because we finally got our own house and lot. To all who helped, the Salcedo LGU, SMDC, ANCOP, and for others who are helping us, thank you very much! Because of you, we will have a good home and a good life.)
After the groundbreaking ceremony which concluded with the ceremonial lowering of the time capsule, they proceeded with the Home Owners Association Election of Officers followed by the ANCOP Health Program Orientation facilitated by Robert Jimenez of GiveKare Foundation.
This housing project is truly a product of God’s grace by putting everyone together as His instruments, to make the impossible possible. This also comes with the hope of restoring not just homes, but more importantly the lives of the home partners, in the fulfillment of our mission in answering the cry of the poor. –PMB, CFC ANCOP Communications
A HUNDRED individuals taking temporary refuge at the Ibaan, Batangas Evacuation Center, after being displaced by the Taal Volcano eruption, signed up for the TVET Training to Employment program, a venture sponsored by CFC ANCOP in partnership with DMCI, the Archdiocese of Lipa and Couples for Christ.
On January 12, just as everyone was still on the height of celebrating the start of a new decade, 2020 brought us one of its surprises no one expected—the Taal Volcano eruption. On its first day of volcanic activity, it spewed tons of ashes that greatly affected Batangas, and has reached nearby provinces and even parts of Metro Manila. This caused a lot of damage to the homes and livelihood of the residents, displacing thousands of them to different evacuation centers all over Batangas province.
