A HUNDRED individuals taking temporary refuge at the Ibaan, Batangas Evacuation Center, after being displaced by the Taal Volcano eruption, signed up for the TVET Training to Employment program, a venture sponsored by CFC ANCOP in partnership with DMCI, the Archdiocese of Lipa and Couples for Christ. The trainees were divided into two courses, namely, Carpentry and Masonry. The training, being conducted in Talaibon in Ibaan, Batangas, began its run last February 26, and will end on March 11, 2020.
His Excellency The Most Reverend Gilbert Garcera, Archbishop of Lipa, celebrated the Ash Wednesday Mass within the evacuation facilities. Afterwards, the archbishop blessed the Mobile Training Center truck, which carries a complete set of equipment needed for the training.
Gerry Mercado, TESDA Regional Training Coordinator, speaking to the trainees, inspired them to dream and get out of the cycle of poverty through the many opportunities being offered to them. Meanwhile, Ruffy Granada, DMCTTC General Manager, motivated the trainees with local and overseas opportunities for those who will complete the training.
AICI has provided funding for the 10-day training, mostly to cover the Php350.00 daily allowance for the trainees as replacement income, their food and lodging, supplies and other training-related expenses.
The 10-day DMCI training on Carpentry and Masonry is TESDA-approved, with the conferment of a Certificate of Competency for all who will attend it. As agreed, DMCI will hire the graduates after the training.
Aside from skills training, the training program also stipulates that the participants must undergo a Values Formation Training Program. (ANCOP Communications)
