TURIN, ITALY – Sports for a cause. This is exactly what two sports groups based in Turin, Italy had in mind when they came together for a charity volleyball tournament on October 20 for the benefit of the Cebu earthquake victims, channeling their donation through CFC ANCOP.

Sunday Hoop Club, in collaboration with the Filipino Athletic Club of Torino (FACT), was able to raise 500€ (roughly Php 34,000) which it donated to families recently devastated by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in September via CFC ANCOP.
Day of fun fundraising
“Everyone participated with a generous spirit. Aside from the games, the atmosphere was very warm — people came not just to play, but to support a meaningful cause…We hope this small contribution can reach and support many of our kababayans in need.,” shared Sunday Hoop Club President Jerwin Dela Peña in an interview.

Some 6 teams composed of 10 players per team participated in the whole-day event at the Sociale Sport, entertaining some 50-100 fans and volunteers.
Joey Dela Peña, Jerwin’s twin brother, who was in charge of managing the different teams, expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in the preparations of the tournament, which was organized in a short period of time.
ANCOP’s global reach
He said in a social media post, “Even though it was put together in just a week, everything went smoothly and it was truly heartwarming to see everyone again, united and still sharing the same passion for volleyball.”
Truly a family event, the fundraising tournament was the idea of Manolo Dela Peña, the father of the Jerwin and Joey, who is a member of Couples for Christ and who vouched for CFC ANCOP.
Jerwin added, “The Dela Peña family has always believed in helping our community, and that spirit played a big part in making this event possible.”
Speaking on behalf of CFC ANCOP, Senior Operations Manager Efren Tompong said the fundraising tournament shows “CFC ANCOP’s global reach and the diversity of its stakeholders, from beneficiaries to donors and partners.”
