WOW Mobile Clinic, another ANCOP first

Share

SAN MATEO, Rizal – Ask any family living in some far-off barrio; chances are one of their struggles is getting timely medical help.

This reality inspired CFC ANCOP to partner with the Rotary Club of Makati Premier District (RCMPD) to launch the first Wellness on Wheels (WOW) Mobile Clinic. It fielded its first medical mission on February 17 at the Our Lady of Banneux (OLB) ANCOP community site in San Mateo, Rizal.

Specifically, the WOW Mobile Clinic was launched to help address a serious health risk facing many Filipinos. “[It] is intended to address the increasing number of people affected with Pulmonary Tuberculosis, a phenomenon that could have a more serious impact on health on a global scale,” explained CFC ANCOP Senior Operations Manager Efren Tompong in an interview. Although the mobile clinic has yet to obtain its FDA permit to administer X-ray diagnostic tests, it was able to help diagnose heart disease, which he noted is “alarmingly rising due to stressful lifestyles.”

Two years in the making

“Though there are things learned and to improve from yesterday, finally, after two years since the creation of this project, we are already in the deployment phase,” shared CFC ANCOP health program coordinator Jam Rubillos in an interview.

With Couples for Christ West B and East B providing crucial manpower support and coordination, the medical mission served around 80 – 90 patients, providing diagnostic services like:

  • ECG
  • Blood Sugar Test
  • Cholesterol Test
  • Uric Test
  • Urine Dipstick Test

‘Dentist to the Beauty Queens’

OLB residents also benefited from the cardiac and tuberculosis information shared at the event, free medical consultations and medicine, and dental extractions administered by CFC member Dr. Ross Aquino, whose high-profile regular patients have earned him the nickname “Dentist to the Beauty Queens.” GKare Foundation Inc. doctors, namely, Dr. Rey Maca and Dr. Val Jaring were also present. CFC West B sector head Dr. Ding Regino and his wife Dr. Maricel Regino were also there to support.

Rotary Club officers and members from RCMPD, Rotary Club of Makati, and Rotary Club of Healing Hands also graced the event.

CFC member Dr. Ross Aquino, whose high-profile regular patients have earned him the nickname “Dentist to the Beauty Queens” also offered free dental services to the Our Lady of Banneux site residents.

Various stakeholders share a common goal.

Overall, the synergy among various stakeholders helped make the blessing and launching of the WOW Clinic a success. Rubillos added: “CFC leaders were also very supportive. Praise God.” Currently, CFC ANCOP plans to deploy more WOW Clinics, possibly in other regions in the Philippines.
